      A Preemie Primer
Posted by Terry Tremethick on 2010/7/14 17:12:44 (0 reads)

Having a premature baby—a baby born before the thirty-seventh week of pregnancy— can be a crash course in both medicine and health economics, not just in parenting. Parents face complex information, difficult decisions, and overwhelming grief and worry—with challenges that often extend well beyond those early days and weeks. As an ob/gyn, Dr. Jennifer Gunter has delivered hundreds of premature babies, but as a mother of preemie triplets, she also understands the heartbreak and challenges of prematurity. The Preemie Primer is a comprehensive resource, covering topics from delivery, hospitalization, and preemie development to parenting multiples, handling health issues, and finding special-needs programs. Compassionate, engaging, and medically grounded, The Preemie Primer is the first book on prematurity to combine the insight of a doctor with the experience of a mom.

      HELP SAVE MALEYAH MARIE
      DONATE TODAY!
Born 18 weeks premature, on 7/13/10 at 1 Lb. 9 Ounces and 11 Inches Long, this precious angel has a long road ahead of her. Doctors have given her a 10% survival rate. She has several ongoing complications & is facing numerous more. Right now she is currently in critical condition in the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) at a local hospital with 24 hour around the clock monitoring. Being born so early her lungs are not completely developed & she is connected to high frequency oscillator ventilator.
On 7/19 her right lung collapsed & she has been propped on her side. Since her skin is so thin only her hands are able to be held & she is unable to be touched or held by her loving family & friends & cannot open her eyes. Also while a tube was being place though her umbilical cord oxygen was cut off to her right leg & her foot turned black but is slowly regaining its normal color. Maleyah has received several blood transfusions due to low white cell count & may need several more. She is also on insulin due to high sugar. The family is being told the next few days will be the most critical ahead & she could pass away any day. The hospital is also not equipped to perform any surgeries on her if she should require it.
Maleyah needs to URGENTLY be transferred via Life Flight to Rainbow & Babies, something the insurance company will not cover & the family can not financially afford (Estimated cost is between $5-8 thousand dollars). Rainbow has everything she needs to be fully and properly cared for and
WE NEED TO GET HER THERE!!!REMEMBER EVERY DOLLAR & PRAYER COUNTS TO REACHING THE GOAL,THE GOAL OF LIFE FOR MALEYAH!!!Monetary donations are being accepted through the families Paypal (www.paypal.com) account illicitimagez@yahoo.com and also at any FIRST MERIT BANK under THE MALEYAH EDWARDS BENEVOLENT FUND to aid the family during this difficult time.Thank you for all of your well wishes, prayers, donations, and ongoing support.HTTP://WWW.FACEBOOK.COM/HELPMALEYAHMARIEhelpmaleyahmarie@yahoo.com

I’M HONOURED TO BE YOUR MUM
Posted by Terry Tremethick on 2009/11/8 16:42:40 (2380 reads)

This is my poem dedicated to my son Alexander, born at 27 + 1 weeks
Congratulations on the birth of your beautiful son
What? I’m not ready. It wasn’t supposed to be like this
I’m not due until September, it’s only June, you must be wrong
Isn’t he lovely, who does he look like?
How can I tell? Surrounded by plastic walls, wrapped up in wires
Please take me away from here. I can’t deal with this today

Hello mummy, your boy’s doing so well
He started his milk today, you must be so proud
Are you talking to me? I don’t feel like a mum
Please don’t call me that, not yet.
Why did this happen? What did I do wrong?
So many questions, I’m lost in this world.

Home at last, but home alone.
Last time I was here I was pregnant
I walk into your nursery and put my hand on my belly
Both empty. I scream in pain – Give me back my baby!
The first night is the worst, and they don’t get much better
Desperately listening for the phone to ring
Living for the moment when I can return to your side

Would you like to hold him?
Are you kidding? Of course I would.
But wait, surely he’s too small
I might hurt him, I can’t do this.
Here you go, your baby in your arms at last
I cannot speak, so tiny, so fragile but yet so perfect.

      Nurse, my baby’s not breathing!
It’s ok, he just forgot. It’s quite normal for his age
Hold his hands, touch his feet, he will soon remember.
      What? Are you people crazy?
      How can this be normal?
I need some time out, my head is spinning.

For hours, I sit and stare at you
      Enclosed in your plastic box
I’ve learned the beeps, I know when to worry
I feel like we’ve been here forever.
Will we ever get out? Will I be able to cope?
I cannot wait for the day to come, when you leave here with me.

3 months on and your finally home
Now you’re bigger and stronger we can finally be a family
Free from wires, your new life begins
So many achievements for such a little one
Breathing by yourself, drinking from bottles
The simple things, others take for granted are so special to me.

I still have so many questions though,
Everyday I continue to ask why me?
But when you look at me and smile,
You have given me the answer no-one else can
I’m the luckiest person to be granted a preemie
And I’m honoured to be your mum.

      NEW Preemie Picture Website
Posted by Terry Tremethick on 2005/7/13 23:58:24 (7713 reads)

Due to all the problems eveyone had with the old gallery we have started a new website where you can create your own gallery easily. It was a big deal to find an appropriate package that was free. But we wanted to make it as easy as possible. The only hitch is that you will need to register again but it takes a few moments. Read the FAQ and you should be just fine.

All old albums are still fine to access and even put pictures in. It is just closed to new albums.
